Don't let it take YOUR life by Lou-in-Canada Don't let it take YOUR life by Lou-in-Canada
ETA Feb 7: Oh my gosh.. a DD? :la: I'm so happy!! Thank you! thank you!! :iconveryexcitedplz:

Depression: Dont; let it take YOUR life.
Silver, gold, and white pigment ink (uni-ball Signo Broad) on foamboard 20x30 inches (50,8 x 76,2 cm). Biggest, most complicated and time-consuming piece I've ever done :D Hands and arms are real size, maybe an inch bigger; I held them above the board and traced their shadow.
They're my own and my husband's. :iconjeff-in-canada: Thank you to Jeff-in-Canada for advise. Without him, this wouldn't be.
And yes, I'm self-conscious about it. ;) I too, suffer from chronic depression.
*****
Depression. One of the major causes of taking off from work when compared to other medical disease. Affecting more than 19 million people in America alone. Depression can occur to anyone, at any age, and to people of any race or ethnic group. For people between the ages of 15 and 44, suicide is the 4th leading cause of death and the 6th leading cause of disability and infirmity worldwide. (More than 90 percent of people who kill themselves have a diagnosable mental disorder, most commonly a depressive disorder or a substance abuse disorder.) Depression is NOT something a person can just `snap out` of. Medical help is needed. Clinical Depression is a common, real and serious illness.
:#1: It is also treatable. :iconyesyesyesplz:
If you suspect you, or anybody you know, may suffer from depression, or any other medical or mental disorder, seek medical advise now. Help is available. Do talk about how you feel to your loved ones. There are more people who understand how you feel than you think. Or if not, are willing to help, despite not yet fully understanding. Depression. Don`t let it OVER-take YOUR life. Don`t let it TAKE your life.

Suggester says: "This piece of art calls for awareness for depression, it is a very personal piece of art, but somehow personally made for everyone who once suffered or still is suffering from a depression. The strength is in the openness of the artist and the commentators."

:iconmerpagigglesnort:
i think this is an important piece. it's personal and it has a message that comes shining through. it's beautiful and serious. sometimes that's hard to achieve. lou's done very well at doing that. i too suffer from mental illness and am inspired by lou's piece.

all the different "fonts" of the words are quite varied and well thought out.

the execution is remarkable. the areas with the extremely detailed circles are just perfect. i've looked at it for a long time and i don't see anything that looks remotely like a mistake.

the layout is excellent. i like that lou used both her hand and her husband's hand. that says to me that having support from a loved one makes living through depression possible. she's done the hands beautifully and gracefully.

i love this piece!

Lou-in-Canada has not only shown amazing artworks in her previous works but this time, She has achieved a great masterpiece that will not be forgotten for quite some time now.

This not only has an amazing quality of good colours but also shows how serious and depressing this artwork is showing to the viewers.

To my thoughts and opinions. The hole is life and the harsh words that are floating inside is what you deal with in reality. and even though I've lived over 16 years of my life up to now. I have expierenced most of the messages that floats inside the hole and yet more feeling and emotions that this artwork carrys, it will come later in life.

it shows a huge message of what the arstist wants us to avoid and get away from each of the words that holds on this. Its like a huge warning sign.

This is an Amazing Artwork and Every person who understands Art, Emotions and Feelings will understand the same way.

Hi,

Love the feeling of this. Would you mind if I used it for a non-profit music video (a song about depression)?

I really like the circles, it reminds me of those color blind tests and so the message to me in this is that you might not see these illnesses coming. Beware! I love it.

I would say you could donate it to NAMI ([link] or [link] <--- Had to plug my local NAMI bc I would love to see it in person =P ) but you're in Canada so I'm thinking the postage could be pricey. Do you have something like NAMI in Canada? This is such a beautiful piece

This piece moves me..because I very much can relate to it (actually to every word that's in the circle) I've been through it myself and it's still a part of me.
I think it shines through in the work that it comes from self-lived experiences :)

I suffer from depression that stems from a disorder called PTSD. This really got to me when I took a good look at it. I feel as if I have to lie to myself to keep going day to day. I hate the idea of anyone seeing what I have really been reduced to, instead of keeping the charade going where I don't give my true self away. I am the last person in the world that I would have ever imagined getting lost like I am now. Thank you for giving people like me a beautiful piece of art created for all of us fighting depression specifically.

hi babygurrl. I'm sorry to hear what you're going through. Those are such hard, painful times. And what you say.. lying.. that was indeed one of the words on my list. I had come up with 80 words. Ofcourse I had to let go of a lot, if I had put them all in, the letters would've been too small to read from a distance. But being ashamed is in there. Lying and feeling ashamed are big ones. Feeling lost is another. You shouldn't have to feel that way. I recommend anybody feeling that way, to talk to their medical doctor. But the hardest thing is taking the first steps, isn't it
I hope you will be trying your best to take good care of yourself. Also, pls try to stop beating yourself up over the head about it. It is not your fault. It's not something you deliberately do. So... first step maybe.. forgive ourselves for everyone of those things that depression causes us to feel, or do, or not do?

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my message. I have been to a few different doctors and they all seem to agree on the diagnosis and the source of it, as well. These intense feelings of depression come and go in waves that I just can't predict, so I have medicine prescribed for anxiety whenever I need that. See, all of this stems from a very specific and unique experience that I experienced a few years ago. The media was involved right away under the circumstances and I was the most important person in all of it, with the exception of the person/s whom were responsible for the homicide. Anyways, it went on from 2007-2009 and to this day, I still have to be prepared for whatever a person can possibly try to be ready for. So, I can accept that some of these changes are permanent. But, I cannot accept a life that is void of even the simplest of pleasures. I am at a loss as to what to do now. I didn't mean to bore you with my life story or anything, but if you have managed to reach the end of this, I just would like to let you know that I do appreciate every bit of kindness that comes my way. Even mail. LOL I'll be working on my first attempt at painting some steampunkish art here shortly, so with me luck! Bye, Sara
